The Church has been informed that it has until March 29 to leave the Lavra altogether. The Lower Lavra, which the UOC still had access to, is home to the actual caves, the monks’ cells, and the Kiev Theological Seminary and Academy.

tldr what’s the drama going on among orthodox as related to this conflict?

I thought orthodox were against war in general, would you have some insight about that issue? How can two countries with a lot of orthodox be at war at all?

Well, yes, it is a catastrophe that these two countries are at war, and many Orthodox are pacifist. My Bishop and spiritual father stated in response to this conflict that waging war is the ultimate sin, and I have been moving more towards becoming a pacifist.

Why should I stand up and die for any nation that is willing to exacerbate conflicts, and when the conflict itself is not life or death for me?

Patriarch Kirill has made his own statements about this that are quite controversial - basically that killing in war is not a sin in this case, and I believe that the same things are being said on the opposite side but it doesn’t get as much attention.

It’s a very difficult situation and I do not want to endorse either side but I will always cheer against who I view as the primary aggressors in world conflict… and that is the American deep state and their oligarch sponsors.

I just remember reading on orthodoxwiki:

Although the Orthodox Church has used something like a “just war” doctrine to determine when a state or empire may engage in armed conflict, it has nevertheless always considered killing even in such cases to be a sin, and has thus required the therapy of repentance.

war especially in a modern context to me often seems unjust, and a failure of conflict resolution by more peaceful means; it seems too often war is stirred up for some other stated “justified” reason than ulterior selfish motives of some kind

I am glad to see other very conservative people who are committed to the idea of peace above all else…

I actually feel like reactionary politics has been failed by violence.

I could try to write more on this - initially, I wanted to a super long post and try to cover it form many angles with different sources… But I just don’t have the time for it.
